Inhalte

Sustainable Software Architecture for a Green IT

In this hands-on module, participants learn how software architecture and development can contribute to the sustainability of IT systems. From analyzing regulatory frameworks and assessing the CO₂ footprint to energy-efficient architectures, data processing, and algorithms, this training provides comprehensive knowledge for implementing resource-efficient software solutions—including sustainable cloud strategies and optimized development processes.

What to Expect

You will gain in-depth knowledge of how software architecture can help reduce energy consumption—technically, organizationally, and functionally. The focus is on understanding IT’s role in the climate context, regulatory and stakeholder requirements, and concrete fields of action within organizations. Additionally, you will learn to measure and monitor emissions, apply energy-efficient architecture concepts, and make sustainable decisions in cloud and development environments.

Contents

  • Climate Change & DigitalizationUnderstand global challenges, use IT resources efficiently, and identify savings potential through digitalization.

  • Regulation & StandardsLearn key laws, certifications, and stakeholder requirements; apply the Greenhouse Gas Protocol.

  • Quality Management & Energy EfficiencyFormulate quality scenarios for energy-efficient software and understand interactions with other quality attributes.

  • Measurement & MonitoringMeasure energy consumption, use metrics (e.g., Software Carbon Intensity), and integrate results into development processes.

  • Software Development & Energy EfficiencyOptimize programming languages, data handling, algorithms, and caching to reduce energy consumption.

  • Software Architecture for Green ITEvaluate architecture styles, communication methods, databases, and service models for energy efficiency; apply Green IT patterns.

  • Operations & Cloud Energy EfficiencyUnderstand data center energy metrics, assess cloud services, optimize operations, and implement CO₂ reduction measures.

  • Energy-Efficient Development ProcessesDesign CI/CD and test processes to be resource-efficient and use infrastructure effectively (containers, caching, resilience).

Participant Requirements

  • Experience in designing and developing small to medium-sized software systems is required

  • Practical experience in software monitoring is an advantage

  • Familiarity with quality requirements is expected

  • Knowledge of software system life cycles is required

  • Hands-on programming experience is helpful and completes the profile

Credit Points for CPSA-A Certification

Participation in the GREEN training grants 10 technical and 10 methodical Credit Points under the iSAQB Advanced-Level Program.
