This Lean methodology is based on the PDCA cycle (Plan, Do, Check, Act) and is implemented using A3 reporting. Unlike traditional Western problem solving approachesquick analysis, brainstorming, and rapid implementationthe Toyota method follows a highly structured and systematic problem solving process with clear problem identification, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement.

A key element of effective problem solving is accurate root cause analysis. Toyota intentionally spends significant time defining and narrowing the problem before developing corrective actions.
