Learn structured and methodical problem solving with the Toyota approach.
In many organizations, the importance of systematic problem solving and sustainable issue resolution is widely recognized. However, teams often struggle to approach complex problems methodically and identify the true root causes. Faced with multiple problems, methods, and possible actions, many employees feel overwhelmed. This training provides a clear and structured problem solving process that helps you systematically analyze challenges, identify root causes, and implement sustainable solutions.
Systematic problem solving based on the Toyota principle.
Toyota Practical Problem Solving (PPS) is a proven method for structured problem solving and root cause analysis. This Lean methodology is based on the PDCA cycle (Plan, Do, Check, Act) and is implemented using A3 reporting. Unlike traditional Western problem solving approachesquick analysis, brainstorming, and rapid implementationthe Toyota method follows a highly structured and systematic problem solving process with clear problem identification, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement.
Understand the root cause before implementing solutions.
A key element of effective problem solving is accurate root cause analysis. Toyota intentionally spends significant time defining and narrowing the problem before developing corrective actions. In many organizations, solutions are implemented too quickly without fully understanding the actual cause of the issue. The PPS method therefore explicitly integrates the Check and Act phases into the problem solving process to verify effectiveness and ensure sustainable improvement.
Practice problem solving using realistic case studies.
You will apply structured problem solving methods through hands-on case studiesfrom guided beginner scenarios to complex real-world challenges from manufacturing and industry. Step by step, you will develop practical skills in root cause analysis, data analysis, and systematic problem solving. Special focus is placed on understanding data correctly, distinguishing correlation from causation, and performing effective failure analysis.
